We are disappointed to announce that Nigel Morgan has been unsuccessful in his bid to be elected as the new councillor for the Newchapel Ward.
This by election was called as a result of former Labour Councillor choosing to resign his seat and leave the Labour Party in Newcastle, over his annoyance at the lack of action from his fellow Labour Councillors with regards to Kidsgrove Sports Centre.
Nigel Morgan is disappointed not to have been elected as the councillor for the Newchapel Ward, however this will not stop the fight to represent the local community. As a result tomorrow Nigel will be writing to the leader of Newcastle Borough Council to request the following;
- Newcastle Borough Council provides the £350,000 worth of funding to re-open Kidsgrove Sports Centre
- Newcastle Borough Council provides subsidies to enable the provision of local bus services
These are all pledges that Nigel made during his campaign and because Kidsgrove Independents believe in ensuring we represent the local community this is exactly what Nigel will be doing.
This election was very tight race between the two establishment parties with Jill Waring just coming out the overall winner. We wish Jill all the best in this role and will ensure that we hold her to account. This does however prove that residents of the Newchapel Ward have rejected the Labour policies which have punished our community.
